Arolape Benson, Geography Student at Durham University, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“I had the absolute privilege on 30th November to run a half marathon in support of The Dorcas Cancer Foundation (TDCF). Through this effort, I was able to raise ₦3,417,000 (three million, four hundred and seventeen thousand naira), equivalent to £1,746.10 at the time of conversion – something I am deeply grateful for.
My sincere thanks go to Korede Akindele from TDCF for his invaluable support and communication throughout the process, Jon-Paul Miller for running the half marathon alongside me, and to everyone who donated or shared their encouragement. Your support truly made this possible.
On 6th January, I had the opportunity to visit the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), where I toured the children’s cancer ward within the Alima Atta Oncology Centre. Seeing the ward firsthand provided important perspective on the realities of paediatric cancer care and highlighted the critical role organisations like TDCF play in supporting patients and families.
During the visit, I also had the privilege of speaking with Dr adedayo Joseph , who generously took the time to explain the hospital’s operations, particularly regarding cancer care and the realities faced by both patients and medical staff. I am extremely grateful to my sisters, Arenike Benson and Arinade Benson, who accompanied me and helped ask thoughtful and important questions throughout the visit.
The Dorcas Cancer Foundation is truly an honourable organisation doing remarkable and life-changing work. I strongly encourage everyone reading this to look them up and, if possible, continue supporting their mission beyond this fundraiser.
Thank you all once again.”
