“Inflammatory arthritis + history of cancer – can targeted therapy still be used?
Key EULAR points:
- Previous cancer in remission does not automatically mean biologics must be delayed
- Assess individual recurrence risk and use shared decision-making
- After prior solid cancer, a TNF inhibitor may be preferred when targeted therapy is needed
- After prior lymphoma, B-cell – depleting therapy may be preferred
- JAK inhibitors and abatacept should be used cautiously when suitable alternatives are lacking If cancer is not in remission, treatment decisions should be multidisciplinary with oncology input.
