Anna Germon: Thrilled to Join the World Cancer Congress 2026 in Hong Kong

Anna Germon, Science and Policy Project Manager at World Cancer Research Fund, shared on LinkedIn:

“Thrilled to have attended the World Cancer Congress in Hong Kong. It was a privilege to attend this Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) congress, hearing the latest advances and discussions on international cancer control.

In particular, World Cancer Research Fund International presented clear evidence on the causal links between alcohol and cancer, making a strong case for labelling on alcohol products.

This was echoed in the Contre Feu session, where Prof. Elio Riboli and Dr. Pubudu Sumanasekara addressed the tactics used by industry to hold back cancer prevention initiatives.

Following abstract presentations from Dr. Doris Chan (Imperial) and Dr. Helen Croker (WCRF International), it was great to see such strong interest in the topics raised – including CUP Global’s lifecourse reviews, and other recent reviews on tea, coffee, sedentary behaviour and many more.

A particular highlight was meeting WCRF International’s Hong Kong Ambassador, Prof Anne Lee, in person, alongside previous Hong Kong Ambassadors Prof TH Lam and Prof Suzanne Ho.

Equally humbling was the hospitality of the Hong Kong Anti-Cancer Society (HKACS), who gave us a wonderful taste of Hong Kong’s culture and made our time there truly memorable.

It was also excellent to visit our grant holders in Hong Kong – more reflections from the congress and grant holder liaison visits to come in the weeks ahead.”
