Anna Cabanes: We Say Cancer Care Should Be Person-Centred, But Do We Actually Measure What Matters?

Anna Cabanes, Co-Founder of Onconecta, shared a post on LinkedIn:

We say cancer care should be person-centred. But are we actually measuring what matters to patients – or just what’s easy to count?

Our scoping review looked at 345 studies on person-centred (PC) care in low- and middle-income countries. Only 20 focused on cancer.

  • Patient satisfaction dominated the research – but patient rights, care coordination, and culturally responsive services? Barely evaluated.
  • Only 41% of studies used validated measurement tools.
  • Structural and systemic drivers of PC care – the things that actually shape whether care feels human – were almost entirely absent from the evidence base.

We’re bringing these findings to a live webinar – and we want the conversation to go beyond the data.”
