Curious about how nerves and fibroblasts interact to drive cancer?
Our latest study reveals a “neuro-mesenchymal axis” essential for PDAC progression.
The Discovery:
-Recruitment: myCAFs secrete axon guidance cues to “pull” sympathetic nerves into the pancreas.
-Signaling: Once recruited, these nerves release Noradrenaline, triggering calcium spikes and pro-fibrotic signaling in fibroblasts
-Functional Proof: Using a chemogenetic Gq-DREADD model specifically in fibroblasts to mimic this Noradrenaline signaling was sufficient to exacerbate pancreatitis and accelerate tumor growth in vivo
