Anirban Maitra: Defining Precancer

Anirban Maitra, Professor of Pathology and Medicine at NYU Langone Health, shared a post on LinkedIn about a new article he and colleagues authored:

“New perspective in Nature Reviews Cancer from the National Cancer Institute (NCI) Precancer Think Tank.

The article provides researchers with a framework to start addressing key topics in preneoplasia research. The precancer microenvironment (PME) is related to – yet distinct from – the tumor microenvironment (TME). All studies on precancer biology and progression should incorporate a detailed assessment of the PME. In many respects, this is the linchpin for enabling cancer interception.”
