“Building the Future of Medical Oncology in Africa
Today, I’m thrilled to introduce our 5 new Year 1 Medical Oncology Fellows: Dr Afia Serwaa Bonsu , Dr Edward Adiku-Tsowu , Dr. Maureen Nyarko, and Dr. Daniel Amenu from Ghana, alongside Dr. Esther Matu matu from Kenya.
Together with my co-director Dr. Peter Oyiro and chief therapeutics expert Dr. Mohammed Ezzi we are honoured to lead this program.
Our mission is clear: train them, mentor them, and shape them into world-class medical oncologists who will transform cancer care across the continent.
Proud moments to celebrate:
- All 4 previous Year 1 fellows passed their exams and advanced to Year 2
- Our program now trains 9 fellows—one of the largest in Africa
- ASCO-accredited and aligned with the joint ASCO-ESMO curriculum
Together with our medical oncology colleagues at Aga Khan University Hospital, Nairobi which also runs a fellowship program in medical oncology,
Kenya is now training the largest number of medical oncologists in Africa. This is a fact we are incredibly proud to share with the world.
None of this would exist without the vision of our founding father and mentor, Prof N.A. Othieno-Abinya and the dedication of our local mentors and contributors and external faculty who continue to elevate this program.
To our new fellows: Welcome.
This journey will challenge you, stretch you, and ultimately prepare you to lead. We’re honored to walk alongside you.
The future of medical oncology in Africa is being written by these remarkable physicians.”
