Andrew Bankouski: My First ESMO Congress Experience and the Value of Networking and Mentorship

Andrew Bankouski, Medical student in Belarusian State Medical University, shared on LinkedIn:

“My first post here, my first ESMO Congress… It was stunning!

I was incredibly happy to reunite with our group of students from the ESMO – European Society for Medical Oncology courses and meet other medical students and young oncologists!

People and connections always matter most and it became clear that, as rising physicians, we share the same challenges, seek mentors, and look for opportunities to work in real science.

Thanks to Kaan Furkan Hamarat, Andreja Lazarevic, Oana Voicu, Ana Maria Mureșan Bădescu, Fadil Umihanić, Vlad Eniu, Mária Iviczeová , Estin Rand, Lidia Trombello, Rosario De Feo Valters Vēģelis.

It was so cool to chat with leading professionals in different fields, to hear some insights and follow their train of thought, and to get advice from people whose advice you genuinely want to receive. I was truly inspired to have conversations with Drs. Hope Rugo, Saar Gill, Teresa Amaral,  Angelika M. Starzer, Carlos Caldas.

Thank you all for your time and attention!

I would like to express my gratitude to andres cervantes and Rodrigo Sanchez Bayona for their concern and care for the future of oncology. Without their initiative, we would hardly have attended such a huge congress as students.

I think our cohesion, networking, and mentorship are also a kind of «link» in the immunity and the counteracting tumor microenvironment. And this link of the microenvironment is social.”
