Andreja Lazarevic, Medical Student at University of Belgrade, shared on LinkedIn:
“My first ESMO Congress and it was amazing!
After the ESMO Course in Medical Oncology for Medical Students, we were granted complimentary registration to attend the Congress, especially the Young Oncologists (YO) sessions and a session dedicated to medical students held by andres cervantes and Rodrigo Sanchez Bayona, whom I am deeply grateful to for their commitment to student education.
First of all, it was impressive to witness how rapidly oncology is changing. Even though we hear that all the time, seeing it in person was both overwhelming and inspiring at the same time.
The YO sessions were very insightful. I had the chance to hear great career and research mentorship advice from Teresa Amaral, Marco Donia, and many others. The Clinical Case Discussion on breast cancer and oncofertility with Matteo Lambertini was particularly engaging.
Also, there was a discussion about the other side of the coin – burnout, disappointment, and rejections. Many big names shared their experiences on how to deal with it and how to turn those challenges into something useful. Definitely not something you hear every day!
A special privilege was listening to Ivana Bozovic-Spasojevic open the session on addressing diagnostic delays in young adults, to whom I am deeply grateful for the guidance and support that made my journey into the ESMO community possible.
Above all, it was great reconnecting with old friends and making new ones!”
