Andreas Charalambous: Global Policy Press Briefing at WCLC26

Andreas Charalambous, Chair Department of Nursing at Cyprus University of Technology, shared on LinkedIn:

IASLC 2026 World Conference on Lung Cancer, Global Policy Press Briefing

Policy only matters when it translates into action.

On Day 1 of WCLC 2026, I had the pleasure of participating in the Global Policy Press Briefing of IASLC and WHO and contributing to an important conversation about one of the biggest challenges in global cancer policy: moving from recommendations on paper to meaningful change in the real world.

I discussed some of the key barriers to policy uptake and implementation, including the gap between evidence, policy development, and health-system action. I also highlighted how well-designed policies, when supported by implementation strategies and strong health-system commitment, can help translate evidence into sustainable improvements in cancer care.

The challenge is not simply to develop better policies, but to ensure that they are implemented effectively, equitably, and at scale.”
