“Podcast on Lung Cancer Policy
It is with great pleasure that I recently contributed to a podcast in the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC) series, which shines a spotlight on the powerful role of policy in driving meaningful change in the fight against lung cancer.
Together with the facilitator Stephen Liu and my esteemed colleagues Samuel Kareff and Nicole Rankin we shared a comprehensive perspective on how data-driven policy can transform outcomes—not only for people diagnosed with and living with lung cancer, but also for the broader public through preventive policy actions that promote healthier air and cleaner water. Our discussion underscored the critical importance of evidence-based decision-making, cross-sector collaboration, and sustained advocacy to reduce risk, improve access to care, and address inequities across regions and populations.
As the previous Chair of this committee, I am deeply honored to have led the efforts to develop and launch the first IASLC Global Policy Report on Lung Cancer. This landmark report represents a collective commitment to translating scientific evidence into actionable policy recommendations, empowering governments and stakeholders worldwide to implement strategies that can save lives and improve quality of life.
It remains both a privilege and a responsibility to contribute to this important work and to continue advancing policies that strengthen prevention, early detection, treatment access, and survivorship care for all those affected by lung cancer.”
