Anaïs Mordohay-Bensimon, Pharmacien Praticien Hospitalier at Saint-Louis Hospital, shared on LinkedIn:
“This week at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), I have the pleasure of sharing the results of a work carried out at the pharmacy of the Saint-Louis Hospital:
The hidden cost of clinical research – Economic burden of investigational medicinal product destruction in oncology trials.
Our analysis shows that more than €2.5 million of treatments were destroyed over the period studied, including €800k of unexpired treatments destroyed after the closure of the trials at the request of the sponsors.
These results highlight the value of exploring new strategies for the distribution, reuse and management of investigational drugs in order to limit their waste.
Thank you to all the collaborators who contributed to this project: Ambre Joyez, Benjamin Laverdant, Ariane Reisszadeh, Isabelle Borget and Isabelle Madelaine.
I would also like to thank the AP-HP Carnot Institute for awarding a grant that supported my participation in this congress.”
