“The first day of ESMO – European Society for Medical Oncology Congress 2026 in Madrid is underway!
One of today’s highlights was the session ‘Liquid Biopsies in Advanced Lung Cancer: Has the Future Arrived?’ by Prof. Natasha B. Leigh.
The discussion explored how liquid biopsy is evolving beyond ctDNA genotyping, with plasma-based NGS, DNA methylation profiling, and epigenomic approaches offering new opportunities for molecular characterisation and monitoring of lung cancer.
A particularly important takeaway was the potential of pre-diagnostic plasma NGS to shorten time to treatment initiation, while recognising the limitations of liquid biopsy and the importance of interpreting negative results carefully.”
