“AMSTRO Conference – Day One (Afternoon Reflections)
One of the most appreciated sessions of the day reminded us of the human side of medicine:
‘From Survival to Purpose: Patient Voices Shaping the Future of Cancer Care’
Panelists:
- Her Royal Highness Princess Dina Mired, Jordan
- Dr. Mareya Almarzouqi, General Physician, Abu Dhabi UAE
Chair: Dr. Wil Ngwa
The discussion was deeply thought-provoking for all medical personnel. It asked us to pause and reflect: What happens when a doctor becomes a patient, or when a close relative sits on the other side of the table?
We were reminded that some of the sentences doctors use every day can carry profound weight on a patient’s mental health. The panel challenged us to rethink our practice – to stop, pause, and consider the impact of our words, and how empathy can transform care.
This session was not just about survival, but about purpose – highlighting Patient voices are not just stories of survival, but guiding lights for the future of cancer care.”
