“We cannot let Volunteer Appreciation Week go by without acknowledging the enormous volunteer support that we rely on for everything our American Cancer Society Discovery Science teams do:
- 1,144 scientific experts and 91 community research partners served as peer reviewers for our extramural grants team over our past two funding cycles.
- Since 1952, nearly 200,000 volunteers have led community outreach efforts to recruit participants for our cohort studies – and more than 2.7 million study volunteers have answered the call!
- 600 volunteers are currently leading recruitment efforts for our newest cohort study – Voices of Black Women.
- 16 volunteer clinicians, public health experts, and patient advocates dedicate hundreds of hours to ensuring our cancer screening guidelines are evidence-based and impactful.
- Our four American Cancer Society Journals are led by 200 volunteer editors and board members and in the past year, 1,200 experts volunteered their time as peer reviewers to uphold the rigor and integrity of the research we publish.
So with one grateful voice, we say Thank You to everyone who has volunteered their time, talents, expertise, and passion in support of our mission to fund, conduct, and publish research that will end cancer as we know it, for everyone!”
