“Recently published in CA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians. This editorial by Dr. Fernando Neves Hugo of New York University – College of Dentistry comments on the recent IARC – International Agency for Research on Cancer / World Health Organization article on global incidence of lip, oral cavity, and pharyngeal cancers by subsite in 2022.
“The development of novel, affordable screening tools to support early diagnosis of lip, oral cavity, and pharynx cancers (LOPC), particularly oropharyngeal cancer, along with an increase in the uptake of HPV vaccination and the adoption of upstream approaches to reduce exposure to well established risk factors for LOPCs, has the potential to importantly shift the trend of LOPC and reduce existing between-country disparities.”
