Amanda Impellizzeri: Incredible Weekend at the TxSCO Annual Conference 2025

Amanda Impellizzeri, Executive Director of 3 Oncology State Societies and Leadership Relations Manager at MJH Life Sciences, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“What an incredible weekend at the TxSCO Annual Conference 2025.
We kicked off the event with a packed “Navigating Early Career in Oncology” session led by Dr. Joseph McCollom DO, and that energy carried through the entire conference. Every room was full, and the excitement was palpable.

Friday evening continued with a powerful policy and legislative panel moderated by Dr. Ray Page, joined by David Gerber, MD along with Anna Prokop from ADVI Health and Nelda Hunter of HillCo Partners a timely discussion on the challenges and opportunities shaping cancer care in Texas.

On Saturday, David Gerber, MD also delivered a keynote session, “Complaining to the Capitol: An Oncologist’s Journey to Preserve Physician-Patient Communication.” We also heard from:

  • Kristen Doyle of UTHealth Houston-CPRIT Innovation in Cancer Prevention Research Training Program on CPRIT’s impact and future priorities
  • Thomas Hutson DO, PharmD, PhD FACP of Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center on building comprehensive oncology in Texas
  • Robert Hilliker, PhD on exploring well-being for healthcare providers
  • Sucharu Prakash, MD of Texas Oncology on innovative models for rural oncology
  •  Travis Sims, MD, MPH and Carlos Barcenas, MD, MSc of MD Anderson Cancer Center on ctDNA and MRD in breast & gynecologic cancers
  • Todd Pickard, DMSc, PA-C, DFAAPA, FASCO of American Academy of Physician Associates (AAPA) on the evolving role of APPs in oncology care
  • David Waterhouse, MD, MPH and Terence Cooney-Waterhouse on AI at the point of care
  • Karen Basen-Engquist, PhD, MPH of MD Anderson Cancer Center on active living after cancer

And a very special thank you to Lucas Wong, MD, our TxSCO President, who opened the conference, introduced every session, and moderated the flow of the entire program keeping the energy high and the conversations impactful.

This year we welcomed a record number of attendees and focused on outside-the-box education that went beyond the clinical norm.

Another highlight was our record number of trainees showcasing their research during poster displays and abstract presentations. The future of oncology in Texas is truly inspiring!

A huge thank you to our attendees, speakers, sponsors, and vendors your support makes TxSCO possible and helps us keep pushing the boundaries of cancer care.

Sharing a few pictures from the event, can’t wait to see everyone again next year!”
