“Today marks a special milestone-our first Investigator-Initiated Trial (IIT) publication is now out in Clinical Cancer Research.
IITs are hard. They don’t happen because a protocol gets written—they happen because countless people keep showing up, meeting after meeting, year after year. Looking back over the past five years, I’ve lost track of the number of discussions with our core study team, statisticians, the NCI, participating sites, bioinformatics collaborators, pharmacokinetic laboratory, and many others who made this work possible.
I’ve been fortunate to be involved in many different types of oncology research throughout my career, but seeing the first IIT that I helped design finally published hits differently. There is something uniquely rewarding about taking an idea from concept to lab to protocol, through regulatory hurdles, patient enrollment, data analysis, and finally publication.
Most importantly, thank you to the patients and their families who placed their trust in us. Clinical research moves forward because of your courage.
I am deeply grateful to my mentors, colleagues, collaborators, research staff, and friends who believed in this project and helped carry it across the finish line. This publication belongs to all of you.
Here’s to the next one—and, more importantly, to continuing to ask better questions for our patients.”
