Aman Chauhan: Emerging Advances in Extrapulmonary NEC at PER Meeting

Aman Chauhan, Associate Professor at University of California, San Francisco, on X:

“Just as we are finally beginning to see meaningful progress in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), there is renewed hope for patients with neuroendocrine carcinoma (NEC). The era of extrapulmonary NEC being treated as an afterthought – relying largely on therapies extrapolated from small cell lung cancer (SCLC) – may finally be coming to an end.

While extrapulmonary NEC shares many features with SCLC, including aggressive biology, profound unmet clinical need, and frequent DLL3 expression, important biological and clinical differences are increasingly being recognized.

These distinctions underscore the need for dedicated research and disease-specific therapeutic strategies. At the PER meeting, we reviewed some of the exciting recent advances in the extrapulmonary NEC landscape and discussed how emerging therapies are beginning to reshape the field.

The future is far from solved, but for the first time in a long time, there is real reason for optimism. As always, it was a privilege to share the stage and engage in these important discussions alongside my esteemed colleagues, Jonathan Strosberg and Sylvia Asa.”
