Alok Khorana, Hardis Endowed Chair and Professor at Cleveland Clinic, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Our new data at ASCO GI 2026, led by Youssef Bouferraa demonstrate that people with early-onset colorectal cancer have symptoms for a much more prolonged period of time before diagnosis than patients with colorectal cancer at average age of onset.
These findings confirm what younger people with colorectal cancer have been telling us in surveys and anecdotes.
Awareness that cancer occurs at even younger ages is vital.
In addition it’s important to identify those at high risk for early-onset colorectal cancer so screening programs can be instituted.
Much more work to be done!”
