Alison Dziarmaga: Proud to Be a Scientist at Heart

Alison Dziarmaga, VP, US Franchise Head of Breast Cancer at AstraZeneca, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“When I began my graduate studies in Human Genetics at the Montreal Children’s Hospital (McGill University), I was drawn by the impact science could have on patients. Working in basic research gave me a deep appreciation for the power of curiosity, resilience, rigorous science and a strong sense of urgency to deliver innovations for patients. This still drives me today.

In my current role leading AstraZeneca’s US Breast Cancer Team, I often rely on those roots as a scientist. We ask two questions on repeat: How can we move faster to educate care teams and patients on the latest treatment advances? How can we ensure everyone has access to guideline-concordant care?

And as a proud mom of two, I think about how to model my love of science to my kids – including the excitement of discovery, asking bold questions and pushing through disappointment with failed experiments.

This International Day of Women and Girls in Science, I’m proud to be a scientist at heart and grateful to partner with so many female scientists, clinicians and leaders as we work to change the way breast cancer is treated. I am also grateful to those who supported me and got me started…thank you Dr. Paul Goodyer for your leadership and mentorship so many years ago. Those early lessons have stayed with me and still ring true to this day!”
