Alique Topalian: Honored to Be Featured in the 2026 Pediatric Cancer Landscape Report

Alique Topalian, Research Scientist of Survivorship and Supportive Services at the University of Cincinnati Cancer Center, shared on LinkedIn:

“As childhood cancer awareness month comes to an and and the Children’s Oncology Group Fall meeting next week I wanted to share the 2026 Pediatric Cancer Landscape Report from the American Cancer Society and the Alliance For Childhood Cancer. I was so honored to be featured.

One statistic from the Pediatric Cancer Landscape 2026 report especially stood out to me: 96% of childhood cancer survivors have a severe or life-threatening chronic condition by age 50. Our kids deserve more!

We have made tremendous progress, with 5-year survival reaching about 86% overall, but major challenges remain. Pediatric cancers have unique biology, clinical trials face small patient populations, investment incentives are limited, and outcomes for some high-risk cancers remain poor.

The report also points to an important opportunity: combining stronger data-sharing ecosystems with AI and continued public, philanthropic, and industry investment to accelerate discovery.

The next chapter of pediatric cancer research must be about more than helping children survive cancer. It must also be about minimizing the lifelong burden of treatment.”
