Alina Comanescu: Advancing Cancer Survivorship Through Fertility Preservation

Alina Comanescu, Vice Chair of the Board at Digestive Cancers Europe, shared on LinkedIn:

”I am pleased to share that I have successfully completed the Fertility Preservation in Patients with Cancer course, an important milestone in strengthening my expertise in cancer survivorship and patient navigation.

Preserving fertility is a critical aspect of comprehensive cancer care. Every person with cancer deserves timely, evidence-based information and appropriate referrals before treatment begins, enabling them to make informed decisions about their future reproductive options.

Through this training, I have strengthened my ability to:

  • Assess the impact of various cancer diagnoses and treatment modalities on reproductive health.
  • Identify appropriate fertility preservation options tailored to diverse patient populations.
  • Strengthen the role of healthcare providers in initiating early conversations and facilitating referrals to fertility specialists.

As a patient advocate and patient navigator, I believe that access to fertility preservation information is not a luxury, but an essential component of person-centered cancer care and survivorship. Navigating cancer should also mean helping patients protect their quality of life and future opportunities beyond treatment.

Empowering patients with informed choices about their future remains at the heart of quality care. Looking forward to integrating these learnings into my practice!”
