Alia Harba: Clinical and Molecular Profile of Early Onset Gastric and GEJ Cancer in a French Cohort

Alia Harba, Medical Oncology Resident at Greater Paris University Hospitals, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“I was honoured to have the opportunity to present our work at ESMO – European Society for Medical Oncology GI 2026 in Munich, an inspiring international meeting that allowed me to share our research, exchange ideas with colleagues from around the world, and take part in stimulating scientific discussions.

Our study, conducted within the Digestive Oncology Department at Gustave Roussy, explored the clinical, histological, and molecular landscape of early-onset (<50 years) gastric and gastroesophageal junction adenocarcinomas in a French cohort of 160 patients.

Our findings highlight the aggressive nature of these cancers, with poor outcomes in advanced disease, as reflected by a median overall survival of 16.8 months and a median first-line progression-free survival of 7.1 months.
Molecular profiling identified ESCAT I-IV alterations in over half of profiled patients, and notably, 18 patients received targeted therapy based on molecular profiling, supporting the clinical utility of molecular testing in this young population.

A big thank you to all my co-authors and especially to Alice Boilève for her guidance, trust, and continuous support throughout this project.”
