Alfonso Dueñas González: Questions on Editorial Independence in Oncology

Alfonso Dueñas González, Medical Oncologist and researcher, shared on X:

“I am writing to raise concerns about recent articles published in Critical Reviews in Oncology/Hematology and to seek clarification regarding editorial conflict-of-interest and independence policies.

The concerns relate to the editorial roles of Christian Rolfo and Andrés F. Cardona, as well as the authorship of Oscar Arrieta, and their history of scientific collaboration and co-authorship.

Dueñas González cited COPE guidance in questioning whether these relationships required editorial recusal and independent handling of the manuscripts.

He requested clarification on who assigned the reviewers and made the editorial decisions, whether potentially conflicted editors were excluded from the review process, and why an editorial-independence statement was not included in the published articles.

The request focuses on transparency around peer review, conflict-of-interest management and compliance with established editorial policies.
