Alexandra La Guardia, Campaign Manager at Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), shared a post on LinkedIn:
“This year marked the second chapter of the World Cancer Day “United by Unique” campaign, calling for a shift towards people‑centred cancer care, an approach that focuses on the needs, values, and active participation of individuals, families, and communities in the planning, delivery, and evaluation of care.
1,000 activities took place across nearly 100 countries, from small, community‑led initiatives to large-scale national campaigns. Millions of people took part online, generating 5 million engagements. The campaign also reached global audiences through more than 30,000 press mentions worldwide.
Beyond the numbers, what stands out most are the stories. In the last two years, over 1,215 individuals have shared their personal experiences of cancer on our website — highlighting what works, what doesn’t, and what needs to change. These stories help challenge assumptions and expose gaps, which can in turn inform more compassionate, responsive cancer care system.
In 2027 we’ll focus on turning these voices into lasting change across policies, systems and care.
This report offers only a glimpse of the amazing energy and excitement felt on 4 February.

I’m eternally in awe of the global cancer community — UICC members, partners, advocates, policymakers, and everyone who raises their voice and takes action on World Cancer Day, and everyday.”
