Alejandra Mendez, Vice President of Childhood Cancer International, Recognized Among 100 Influential Women in Oncology in 2025 by OncoDaily, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“I am so happy and grateful to have participated last week in the Childhood Cancer International – Europe Regional Conference held in conjuction with SIOP Europe, the European Society for Paediatric Oncology (SIOPE) in Glasgow.
It was truly inspiring to learn more about the impressive work being done across Europe to support children with cancer and their families, and to better understand the challenges they continue to face in the region.
I was especially moved by the important work being done with childhood cancer survivors — ensuring that survival is not only about being alive, but also about quality of life, dignity, support, and hope for the future.
My full admiration and support go to the wonderful CCI Europe team and to all my dear friends across the region.
A very special recognition to the Regional Committee for their leadership, commitment, and the excellent organisation of such a meaningful and inspiring conference. Anita Kienesberger , Georgia Kokkinou , Luisa Basset Salom , Tiago Costa, Anne Goeres
Special thanks to Ketiona Malolli and Cherine Mathot for so beautifully teaching me the difference between inclusion and belonging — a distinction that deeply resonated with me and that I will carry forward in my work and advocacy.
Thank you for the warm welcome and for all the work you do every day for children, adolescents, survivors, and families. Together, we are stronger and together we can save more children’s lives!”
