Alejandra Mendez, Vice President of Childhood Cancer International, recognized among 100 Influential Women in Oncology in 2025 by OncoDaily, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“In the framework of Cancer Survivors Month, I am deeply moved to share this interview with Gvantsa Khizanishvili, for OncoDaily TV.
This conversation was not only about survivorship. It was about life after cancer. About the children who grow up carrying invisible scars. About families who continue to live with fear, gratitude, uncertainty, and hope. About the urgent need to understand that surviving childhood cancer is not the end of the story – it is the beginning of a lifelong journey that deserves care, dignity, and support.
Childhood cancer survivors need more than recognition. They need health systems that follow them, policies that protect them, communities that understand them, and opportunities to live fully – not only to survive. Thank you Gvantsa Khizanishvili, for helping me highlight the importance of public policies that support long-term quality of life for childhood cancer survivors, particularly in areas such as survivorship care and fertility preservation.
At Childhood Cancer International (CCI) we are proud to raise this message as part of the global voice of people with lived experience of cancer. Because every child who survives cancer deserves not only a future – but a future with quality of life, purpose, and hope.
At CCI, we have recently launched SURNET, a global network of childhood cancer survivors. We believe it is essential to hear the voices of survivors from around the world – their experiences, needs, challenges, and hopes must guide the future of childhood cancer care. We are currently working to collect meaningful global data on survivorship – a topic that is central to our mission. Below you will find the link to the survey. Please share it widely within your communities.”
