Alejandra Mendez: An Urgent Call to Guarantee Humanitarian Corridors for Children With Cancer

Alejandra Mendez, Vice President of Childhood Cancer International, recognized among 100 Influential Women in Oncology in 2025 by OncoDaily, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“From Childhood Cancer International – LATAM we express our deep concern about the situation in Bolivia and its serious impact on children and adolescents with cancer.

The blockades and the crisis are affecting the supply of hospitals and limiting access to cancer medicines, oxygen, medical supplies, food, blood, medical transport and specialized care.

In childhood cancer, stopping treatment does not mean a simple delay. It can involve disease progression, irreversible complications, and even death.

Children with cancer can’t wait.

No political, social or economic conflict should prevent a child from receiving the treatment he or she needs to survive. For this reason, we make an urgent call to guarantee humanitarian corridors, protect access routes to pediatric hospitals and cancer centers, prioritize the supply of medicines and supplies, and ensure continuity of care.

We express our solidarity with the families, health teams, hospitals and organizations that continue to work in the midst of this crisis.
We cannot allow children with cancer to become invisible victims.

Every hour counts.
Every treatment counts.
Every child counts.”
