Alejandra Mendez, Vice President of Childhood Cancer International, Recognized Among 100 Influential Women in Oncology in 2025 by OncoDaily, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“I am deeply honoured and grateful to have been invited to present at this high-level event: ‘Childhood Cancer in the Global NCD Agenda, A Call to Action for Lifelong Integration and Access to Care‘, which will be held in the framework of the United Nations and the 79th World Health Assembly.
I also confess that I am a little nervous. Representing the voices of those of us who have lived through the experience of childhood cancer in our families is an enormous honor, but also a great responsibility.
Childhood Cancer International is the global organization that represents the voice of people with lived experience-patients, survivors, parents, caregivers, and families-in childhood cancer. For this reason, the fact that CCI is invited to participate in this type of global discussion space is also a recognition of the value and legitimacy of that voice.
I am excited that our experiences, stories, learnings and challenges are being included in high-level tables where decisions are made that can impact the lives of so many children and adolescents with cancer in the world.
Thank you to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, United Nations and all the people and institutions that have worked to make this event possible.
With great humility, I accept the responsibility of being the voice of many. Because childhood cancer does not end when treatment ends: survival, quality of life and access to lifelong care must also be part of the global agenda.”
