Albert Bourla: Great Reminder From FIFA of What Becomes Possible When the World Comes Together

Albert Bourla, Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer at Pfizer, shared on LinkedIn:

“Congratulations to Spain on a great WorldCup victory, and to Argentina on an excellent run.

Nobody would call me the biggest football (soccer) fan, but it was an excellent match and the entire tournament has been a great reminder of what becomes possible when the world comes together. Sport can do that in a way not much else can.

With so many games played just a few miles from our headquarters in New York, the tournament also felt close to home. And it carried a lesson. You don’t become a champion by hoping your rivals stumble. You become a champion by playing better and scoring more goals. When the competition is strong, you raise your own game. I believe the same is true in science and in our industry.

I have lived and worked in five different countries, and each one taught me something I could not have learned anywhere else. Pfizer is a global company, and the best thing I ever did for my career was get out into the world, work alongside people different from me and stay open to what they had to teach me.

That includes, of course, our colleagues in Spain, where we have operated for more than 70 years and where we just opened a next-generation supply chain command center in Madrid. Muchas felicidades. We are celebrating with you.
