“After months of hard work, long days, sweat, worry, faith and the generosity of so many people, we finally commissioned our Learning Hub for children battling cancer at Korle Bu.
Standing there yesterday, I couldn’t help but think about the little children this space is really for. Children who should be running, playing, learning and dreaming.
But instead find themselves spending far too much of their childhood in hospital, fighting a disease they never asked for.
This Hub is our little way of giving some of that childhood back.
A place where they can learn, play, imagine, create, dream and simply be children. But it is also for their mothers and fathers. For caregivers who carry an unimaginable burden. And for the medical teams who work tirelessly every day to bring comfort and healing to our little heroes.
Most importantly, this is about telling our patient families:
‘We see you. We care about you. You are not alone.’
I am deeply, deeply grateful to every person and organisation who believed in this dream and helped us bring it to life.
Thank you for taking a chance on us. Thank you for trusting us. Thank you for your generosity. Thank you for believing that children with cancer deserve hope, dignity and the chance to still be children.
Yesterday, we opened a building.
But in my heart, I believe we opened something much bigger: a little more hope in the middle of a very difficult journey.
And for our little heroes, that means everything.
This is their space. This is their hope. And this is only the beginning.”
