Akhil Kapoor: Microbiome-Epigenome Axis in Precision Oncology

Akhil Kapoor, Professor of Medical Oncology at Tata Memorial Centre, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Thrilled to share that our review article, “The Microbiome and Its Impact on the Epigenome in Cancer,’ has been published in Frontiers in Epigenetics and Epigenomics.

This review explores the fascinating interplay between the human microbiome and epigenetic regulation in cancer. We discuss how microbial metabolites influence DNA methylation, histone modifications, and non-coding RNA pathways, shaping cancer initiation, progression, immune responses, and therapeutic outcomes.

As oncology moves toward precision medicine, understanding the microbiome-epigenome axis may unlock novel biomarkers and therapeutic strategies, including microbiome modulation to enhance treatment efficacy.

I am grateful to all my co-authors and mentors for their valuable contributions, especially Prof. Kumar Prabhash and the entire team.”
