Akhil Kapoor, Professor of Medical Oncology at Tata Memorial Centre, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Had the opportunity to moderate and conduct a panel discussion on ‘Clinical Trials That Matter Most in Busy, Resource-Constrained Settings’ at the 9th LION Conference, Bhopal, India.
The discussion centered on a fundamental question:
How to conduct clinical trials that are truly applicable to the majority of our patients?
It was a great privilege to moderate the session, with my mentor Prof. Kumar Prabhash Sir being a panelist along with other distinguished panelists from AIIMS and TMH, Sachin Khurana, Prabhat Bhargava, Atul Batra, Bharat Bhosale, Ankit Jain, Amol Akhade, Purvish Parikh, Anant Ramaswamy. Special thanks to Dr Tarini Prasad Sahoo Sir for keeping Statistical and Clinical Research sessions.
Key reflections:
- The need to move beyond ideal-world trials to pragmatic, implementable research
- Designing studies that reflect real-world constraints—financial, logistical, and infrastructural
- Importance of simplified protocols, adaptive designs, and cost-conscious endpoints
- Strengthening multi-center collaborations across tier 2 and tier 3 settings
- Ensuring that patient voice and accessibility remain central to trial design
Encouraging to see increasing alignment toward high-impact, practice-changing research that is relevant to our healthcare ecosystem.
Grateful for the insightful perspectives shared by fellow panelists and the engaged audience.”
