Aisha McClellan: Celebrating a Decade of Survival and the Power of Patient Advocacy

Aisha McClellan, Project Manager of Urology Department and Cancer Outcomes Research Program at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“When I was 32 years old, I was diagnosed with metastatic cervical cancer.

Yesterday, I celebrated my 42nd birthday.

Ten years later, my heart is filled with so much gratitude. Gratitude for the doctor who believed me, for the chance to still be here, and for all of the moments I once wasn’t sure I would get to experience.

At 32, I was told I may only have months left with my children. I never could have imagined I would be here 10 years later, still getting to experience motherhood, milestones, birthdays, and everyday moments with the people I love most.

This journey has changed me in more ways than I can explain. One of the most meaningful parts has been the ability to connect with and support others through patient advocacy and survivorship.

There is something incredibly powerful about helping people feel seen, heard, and a little less alone.

I don’t take any of it for granted.”
