Southern Africa Advances Health Sovereignty and Regional Health Security – Africa CDC

Africa CDC, shared on Facebook:

“Southern Africa is stepping forward with ambition, solidarity and a shared commitment to stronger health systems.

The 5th Southern Africa Regional Ministerial Steering Committee opened today in Windhoek, Namibia, bringing together Ministers of Health, regional leaders and partners around Africa’s health security and sovereignty agenda.

The opening featured solidarity remarks from WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, followed by remarks from Africa CDC Director-General H.E. Dr Jean Kaseya, the Chairperson of the Southern Africa ReSCO, Hon. Madalitso Baloyi, Minister of Health and Sanitation of Malawi and the Minister of Health in Namibia Dr. Esperance Luvindao.

Ambassador Dr Kaire Mbuende, Director-General of Namibia’s National Planning Commission, represented H.E. Dr Netumbo Nandi-Ndaitwah, President of the Republic of Namibia.

From financing African health priorities to expanding national health insurance, strengthening local manufacturing and improving regional preparedness, Southern Africa is helping shape the continent’s path towards health sovereignty.

The work now is to turn this regional ambition into funded commitments and measurable results for Africa’s people.”
