ACT for Children shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Access Cancer Treatment (ACT) for Children was created to transform the landscape of pediatric cancer care, by collaborating with partners and leveraging global resources and local expertise to improve access to life-saving treatments for children with cancer.
We’re joining together Servier, Childhood Cancer International, the International Society of Paediatric Oncology – SIOP, Resonance, IDA Foundation, World Child Cancer USA, and the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) – led Access to Oncology Medicines (ATOM) Coalition to address the significant disparities in childhood cancer in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).
Each year, thousands of children in LMICs are diagnosed with cancer and face significant inequities in their fight for survival. Counterfeit and substandard medicines, insufficient medical education, and lack of access to proper diagnostics contribute to a 30% survival rate, compared to over 80% in high-income countries.
The ACT for Children initiative will leverage the unique expertise of various partners to establish sustainable access to innovative medicines and quality clinical management, aiming to close this gap.
The collaboration has delivered $2.3 million worth of high-quality, essential medicines at no cost to childhood cancer centers in Asia and Central America. We had the opportunity to visit one of these centers in Armenia, where we saw the impact that ACT for Children is making for patients, families, and physicians.
