“No parent should ever have to choose between continuing their child’s cancer treatment and meeting the basic needs of their family.
Yet in resource-limited settings, treatment can come with overwhelming financial, emotional, and practical burdens. The direct cost of care, travel, time away from work, and the challenges of prolonged treatment can make continuing care impossible for some families and face the heartbreaking decision to stop or abandon treatment.
In some regions, treatment abandonment affects up to 50–60% of children with cancer.
Addressing childhood cancer means more than making treatment available. Families need affordable care, social and financial support, accessible services, and the confidence that continuing treatment is possible.
No family should have to make this choice alone.
