“Every child with cancer deserves access to high-quality care, regardless of where they live.
According to the International Society of Paediatric Oncology – SIOP, the recommended baseline nurse-to-patient ratio is 1:5 in general pediatric oncology units and 1:2 in critical care and transplant units. Yet in many low- and middle-income countries, shortages of trained nursing staff make these standards difficult to achieve.
Specialist pediatric oncology nurses play a vital role in delivering safe, effective treatment and supporting children and their families throughout their cancer journey. Strengthening the healthcare workforce is essential to improving outcomes and reducing inequalities in childhood cancer care.
Through collaboration across healthcare, medicine, and the nonprofit sector, ACT for Children is working to expand access to trained pediatric oncology nurses and essential resources that can improve outcomes for children with cancer worldwide.”
