Designing Systems That Support Families Through the Full Journey – ACT 4 Children

ACT 4 Children shared a post on LinkedIn:

“Building better childhood cancer care means looking beyond treatment and designing systems that support families through the full journey.

ACT 4 Children, along with Childhood Cancer International, is supporting Kilimanjaro Christian Medical Centre, Moshi, Tanzania, to establish a “home away from home” for children undergoing cancer treatment and their families. For many, long travel distances, high costs, and time away from care are major drivers of treatment abandonment. Creating a space close to the hospital can ease this burden, making it possible for children to stay on treatment and families to stay together.

As part of this journey, the team from Moshi, Tanzania, Dr. Esther Majaliwa, Faith Douglas, and Beatrice Chimela, visited CHOC Childhood Cancer Foundation SA in South Africa to learn from established models of family-centered support. From paediatric wards to accommodation programmes, the exchange offered practical insights and inspiration to shape solutions that fit their local context.
