“The latest Global Cancer Statistics report is now available in CA: A Cancer Journal for Clinicians.
Authored by researchers from the American Cancer Society and the IARC – International Agency for Research on Cancer, this latest GLOBOCAN report provides a comprehensive snapshot of the global cancer burden and highlights geographic variation in cancer incidence and mortality that can help inform cancer control efforts worldwide.
Explore highlights from the report below:
- Nearly 21 million new cancer cases and 9.8 million cancer deaths occurred worldwide in 2024.
- Lung cancer remains the leading cancer worldwide for both incidence and mortality.
- Prostate cancer is the second most commonly diagnosed cancer among men, with disproportionately higher mortality in the Caribbean and sub-Saharan Africa.
‘Cancer is one of the greatest public health challenges of the 21st century and a major barrier to increasing life expectancy worldwide. Understanding the magnitude and geographic distributions of the disease is essential to guide effective and equitable prevention and control efforts,’
– said Dr. Hyuna Sung, senior principal scientist, cancer surveillance at the American Cancer Society and lead author of the report, in a press release.”
