“What a tremendous end to our 20th year of Cancer Lobby Day, and 25th birthday!
On Wednesday, ACS CAN President Lisa A. Lacasse presented National Distinguished Advocacy Awards to legislators Wisconsin State Rep.
Amanda Nedweski, New York State Sen. Roxanne Persaud, Mississippi State Rep. Sam Creeekmore, and Mississippi State Sen. Walter Michel for their work in their state legislatures to advance the fight against cancer by making it possible for more people to prevent, detect, treat, and survive cancer.
President Lacasse also presented Judicial Advocacy Initiative Awards to Lindsay Kaplan and Ashley Edmonds from the law firm of Kilpatrick Townsend and Stockton LLP in recognition of their tremendous donations of legal services in support of our mission to advocate for evidence-based public policies to reduce the cancer burden for everyone.
ACS CAN Board Chair John Manna helped us recognize and celebrate our amazing volunteer fundraisers who have helped us raise over $977,000 through Lights Of Hope!
ACS CAN Vice President of Federal Advocacy Julie Nickson recapped the Tuesday Hill visits with members of Congress and their offices. Cancer advocates met with every Senate office and 393 House offices, and had 175 senior-staff level meetings and 106 member-level meetings.
ACS CAN Senior Vice President of Advocacy Communications and Public Policy Alissa Crispino highlighted our impressive reach via earned media, social media, advertising, and digital engagement.
Advocates then attended a final breakout session to learn more skills to take back home to their state teams.
Finally, the incredibly talented actress and singer Mandy Gonzalez reflected on her breast cancer journey as she celebrates 7 years cancer-free.
She reminded cancer advocates that together, the show must go on—but no one has to do it alone.
