American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network (ACS CAN) shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Rain or shine, ACS CAN advocates were ready to take on Cancer Lobby Day!
At the Lobby Day Send-Off, we celebrated our federal and state National Distinguished Advocacy Award recipients: Rep. Diana DeGette, Sen. Thom Tillis, Sen. Willis Curdy, and Sen. Troy Singleton.
Ahead of their meetings with lawmakers, our advocates made their way to the Hill to gather outside the Capitol for Patients Coming Together to ProtectCancerCures to remind Congress that the promise of tomorrow’s cures is in their hands. Speakers included American Cancer Society CEO and ACS CAN CEO Shane Jacobson; ACS CAN President Lisa Lacasse; ACS CAN Massachusetts volunteer and ovarian cancer patient Teresa Simpson; Rep. Zach Nunn; Rep. Joe Morelle; Sen. Chris Van Hollen; Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz; Rep. Terri Sewell; and Rep. Deb Dingell.
Advocates then met with lawmakers and their offices throughout the day to urge them to prioritize cancer research and prevention programs, along with other proven cancer-fighting policies, while highlighting the real-life impact these investments have on patients, families and communities.
LightsOfHope bags were set up earlier in the day in Constitution Gardens at the Hope Walk. Despite the sudden rainy weather in the evening, we appreciate everyone coming out to honor and remember those touched by cancer.
Stay tuned for more photos from Lights of Hope and today’s events.”
