Achieck Njeck: Early Detection Requires More Than Awareness

Achieck Njeck, Student Nurse, Clinical Nrainee at Bamenda regional Hospital, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“We tell women to go for breast cancer screening… but in many communities, the next question is heartbreaking: Where should they go?

In Bamenda, Cameroon, breast cancer is often detected at advanced stages. Not because women ignore their health but because the pathway to early detection is still limited.

Early detection requires more than awareness.
It requires access to mammography, diagnostic laboratories, trained specialists, and organized screening programs.

Where these systems exist, breast cancer can be detected early and treated successfully. Where they are missing, many families are left without clear guidance.

This is why Vanguard Oncology Network (VON) is working within communities to:

  • Educate women on early warning signs
  • Advocate for stronger breast cancer screening systems
  • Promote early detection and timely care
  • Encourage open conversations about cancer in our communities

Because early detection should not depend on where a woman lives. We welcome collaboration with health institutions, researchers, NGOs, and global health partners committed to strengthening early cancer detection across Africa.

Together, we can build stronger systems, earlier diagnoses, and save more lives.”
