This Oncology Nurses Month, we proudly honor an outstanding oncology and palliative care advocate – Nurse Martha Wanjiru of Kiambu County, Kenya.
A dedicated Kenya Registered Nurse and Palliative Care Specialist, Nurse Martha has devoted her career to advancing equitable access to breast and cervical cancer care through patient-centered service, awareness, and advocacy.
With over 18 years of experience in breast and cervical cancer screening, early detection, treatment of precancerous lesions, and community education, she continues to transform lives through prevention – focused healthcare initiatives and compassionate care.
Her unwavering commitment to cancer advocacy and community outreach has earned her several recognitions, including the Beyond Zero Award 2023 – Kiambu County for outstanding cervical cancer awareness initiatives. She was also featured in Nursing Stars Magazine (June 2025) for her exceptional contributions to cancer screening, advocacy, and education.
In recognition of her remarkable impact, Nurse Martha was honored as the Health Worker Cancer Champion of the Year 2025 by KENCO, celebrating her dedication to cancer prevention and patient advocacy.
Through mentorship, awareness campaigns, and early detection programs, Nurse Martha continues to inspire healthier communities and strengthen the fight against cancer across Kenya.
