“It was a privilege to moderate the panel discussion at the Indian Society for the Study of Lung Cancer (ISSLC) Webinar on ‘Lung Cancer Screening in India: Aspirational or Achievable.’
My sincere thanks to Khosla Divya for organising this excellent academic event and for the opportunity to be part of this important discussion.
I thoroughly enjoyed moderating an outstanding panel comprising Dr. Deepak Abrol, Dr. Srinivas Gopinath, Dr. Sandhya Lakshmi, and Dr. Jitendra Kumar Saini.
I never found panelists so apt and to the point andwer to every question. To make the session engaging and interactive, we introduced a rapid-fire round with five questions for each panelist, each to be answered in 30 seconds.
The format led to crisp, insightful, and thought-provoking perspectives on the practical challenges and opportunities for implementing lung cancer screening in India.
During my discussion, I also shared my experience as an international expert and contributor to the WHO Handbook 21 on Lung Cancer Screening and upcoming publication in New England Journal of Medicine.
I also highlighted the BMS Foundation-supported AIRCARE Study and the Indian Lung Screening Trial, both of which are going to generate valuable evidence to guide lung cancer screening strategies in our setting and beyond age and smoking based risk stratification.
The discussions reinforced an important message: the time has come to move from aspiration to implementation.
Institutions across India should begin developing structured lung cancer screening programmes, generating local evidence, building multidisciplinary teams, and integrating screening into routine clinical practice for high-risk populations.
