AACR and AAMC CEOs Call to Action Against Federal Proposal That Could Severely Weaken US Research Grants

The U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB) has proposed revisions to the Uniform Guidance (2 CFR Part 200), which governs federal financial assistance and research grant funding for universities, nonprofits, and other recipients. These changes could significantly impact the administration and funding of federally supported research and academic medicine․

Margaret Foti, CEO at American Association for Cancer Research, commented on that subject on X:

“If finalized, the recently issued proposed regulations from the White House Office of Management and Budget will severely weaken the U.S. federal research grant program that has supported American innovation and medical breakthroughs for decades.

David J. Skorton, President and CEO of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), also shared his thoughts on LinkedIn:

“A federal proposal could significantly change how research grants are awarded and managed across the country, affecting organizations and communities that rely on this funding and the patients who seek new treatments and cures from biomedical research.

The public comment period is only open until July 13. Now is the time to take a look and share your perspective.
