While this plan sought to slash the NIH budget from $47 billion to $28 billion and cap essential indirect cost reimbursements at 15%, Congress took a bipartisan stand to reject these cuts, instead securing a modest funding increase.
However, advocacy leaders like Margaret Foti warn that with a 9.5% biomedical inflation rate, even these stabilized budgets struggle to maintain the pace of innovation, making the fight for robust, predictable investment more urgent than ever.
