Margaret Foti and AACR Delegates Thank Congress for Protecting NIH/NCI Funding

American Association for Cancer Research (AACR) shared a post on X:

“Congress…united around the message that NIH funding must be increased, not cut, and must remain a national priority.

Margaret Foti leads the AACR26 delegates in thanking Congress for rejecting the Administration’s proposal to cut NIH and NCI funding by 40 percent.”

The 2026 ASCO Advocacy Summit and AACR Annual Meeting have focused on a critical battle for federal research support following a proposal by the Trump Administration to cut NIH and NCI funding by 40%. While this plan sought to slash the NIH budget from $47 billion to $28 billion and cap essential indirect cost reimbursements at 15%, Congress took a bipartisan stand to reject these cuts, instead securing a modest funding increase.

However, advocacy leaders like Margaret Foti warn that with a 9.5% biomedical inflation rate, even these stabilized budgets struggle to maintain the pace of innovation, making the fight for robust, predictable investment more urgent than ever.
