Alina Comanescu: Patient Groups Call for Depoliticisation of Health Policy in Romania

Alina Comanescu, Vice Chair of the Board at Digestive Cancers Europe, shared on LinkedIn:

“We demand urgent depoliticisation of health – We need a real technical dialogue, not financial bottlenecks and political declarations

Ensuring access to essential treatments is a public health priority and must not become a subject of political dispute. We are in the midst of a war of disinformation, the first to be affected are vulnerable people. This process also affects the stability of the health system.

We consider it appropriate to urgently depoliticize health policies and initiate a structured technical dialogue between the Romanian Government, the National Health Insurance House (CNAS), representatives of the pharmaceutical industry and those of patients.

Any postponement or administrative blockage generated by political interests can lead, in a short time horizon, to serious discontinuities in the provision of treatments.
We believe that decision-making maturity, transparency and the repositioning of the patient’s best interest are needed at the center of all public health policies.”
