Tina Sandmann, Executive Vice President, Dr Group General Counsel at Merck Group, Darmstadt, Germany shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Today is Belén Garijo’s last day at Merck Gruppe. Belén has been my boss for the last five years. I still remember our first meeting: my first 1:1 with her.
I was naturally a bit nervous as the topic was about preparing a critical audit and I was a bit uncertain how she would react to my suggestion. As the room temperature increased by 2 degrees from her kindness while we spoke, I had my first encounter of the warmth and thoughtful interest I would witness on numerous occasions during our time working together.
Belén has reached many incredible milestones. And keeps doing so. I always assumed if you make it to this level, as the first woman in Germany as a single-handed CEO of a DAX company (not to mention meeting the Pope, the King of Spain, and the German Chancellor), you must be tough as nails. And while I do not doubt her toughness, the memories of our interactions that stand out most are her incredible sincerity, her kindness, her honesty, and her BS proof behavior.
Dear Belén, thank you for everything. You have been an amazing boss, and it was an incredible honor to collaborate with you. You are my hero for being a role model to show what female leaders in Germany and around the world can achieve.”
